Clearly, this post is about the Saab Watch Face, not about a specific smartwatch. Unfortunately, there is a huge number of smart watches and operating systems, so it is very difficult for the so-called Watch Face templates will be compatible and work on all these platforms.

Amazfit Stratos Smart Watch

In this, my case, I recently purchased an Amazfit Stratos fitness smartwatch that is great for anyone who enjoys sports, especially running and cycling. TheStratosreally is agood all-rounder when it comes to sports, it’s GPS smartwatch with 5 ATM water resistance, VO2max fitness level analysis, heart rate sensor, and transflective always-on color touch display (ALWAYS-ON display).

The watch is packed in a carbon-fiber (beautiful textures known from the world of motorsport) case, has Polished ceramic bezel, scratch-resistant tempered (Gorilla) glass and an exchangeable 22mm durable silicone watch strap

It also boasts reliable built-in GPS, a heart rate monitor and battery life that competes with the best in the wearables game at only $150. For a bit of context, that’s more than $100-$150 cheaper than most of its competitors. There are more, MP3 player, 2GB of free memory, barometer, gyroscope, compass, and more. Anyway, great platform.

A Customizable Watch Face Design

The Amazfit Stratos uses a proprietary operating system, which is quite common in the fitness segment, but this system is based on Android Wear (Wear OS) so it supports as many options as any other wearable Android. One option is the variable Watch Face selection. Along with the watch itself, almost twenty different Watch Face options come from the factory.

However, it is much more interesting to create these graphical interfaces yourself. The system supports two options in this domain, .apk Watch Face which is a real small Android application and here you can adjust everything in the domain of the graphical appearance of the clock interface, from widget selection to font selection.

And another option, much simpler are .WZF templates, which allow you to easily change the interface. Thanks to the large online community of Amazfit enthusiasts, it is easy to get a new .wzf interface, and you can create a Watch Face yourself.Developers from this community have created a number of applications that allow us to create our own .WZF template and customize the smartwatch to our liking.

Saab 99 Turbo Watch Inspiration

I tried several design tools to create a .WZF template and found the right one. The next thing was inspiration, but it wasn’t far either. The reduced, minimalist, Scandinavian Saab design is always a good option.

This is just the beginning, and it’s best to look for inspiration in traditional things like a Saab wristwatch dedicated to the Saab 99 Turbo model – Genuine saab watch with the well known three colorsTurbo pressuregauge design. The original turbo pressure scale has been adapted to fit the 12-hour scale of the classic chronometer.

The design is minimalist, recognizable, and time is read at a glance. Although modern smartwatches allow you to put a large number of information widgets on the interface, this .WFZ template is devoid of that. There are only time, numerically stated date and battery status, without redundant information. Just like in the co*ckpit of a Saab car.

In addition to the listed smart watches, the template should work on other watches that support round .WFZ templates, but we have not tested that. After downloading the .WFZ file, connect the smartwatch to the computer and transfer the file via a USB cable to the “WatchFace” folder, which is located in the Root of the device. Then go to the Settings > General > Watch Face Setup section on the smartwatch and select the new Watch Face called “SAAB”. And that’s it, enjoy the new watch!

Transflective or OLED screens

In the Stratos model we have the so-called transflective screen, which means that The display is always on and easily readable under bright sunlight.

As a result, the colors are a little less saturated, but the visibility and readability is fantastic. With other Amazfit models, we have OLED screens where the colors are much more saturated and this design is still beautiful, but those screens are not always-on type.
