What time does the train stop running in Los Angeles? ›

Unfortunately, the LA Metro system does not run 24/7! Most trains run from 4 a.m. until midnight or 1 a.m. on Sunday – Thursday, and all lines (including the Orange and Silver Line Busways) run until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

All fares can be pre-paid by loading a pass or Stored Valued (cash) on a TAP card and then tapping each time you board. On buses you can also pay for a single ride with a token or cash using exact change.

The Los Angeles Metro Rail runs approximately from 4:30 am to 1:30 am, although the schedule varies depending on the line and day of the week. The frequency of trains is approximately between 5 and 10 minutes depending on the time.

Does Metrolink operate the Metro light rail and buses? No. Metro, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority operates buses, subways (B (Red) and D (Purple) lines), and light rail (A (Blue), C (Green), E (Expo) and L (Gold) lines).

Subways are larger and longer – a subway train can hold up to 1500 passengers (in 'crush' conditions). An LRV can hold 255 people in each vehicle, and it can be linked into a train of two or more cars. Streetcars carry between 75 and 100 people per vehicle.

Rapid transit or mass rapid transit (MRT), commonly referred to as metro, is a type of high-capacity public transport that is generally built in urban areas. A grade separated rapid transit line below ground surface through a tunnel can be regionally called a subway, tube, or underground.

Above ground subways are typically referred to as "elevated railways" or "el trains".

Most services across the country stop between around 01:00 and 05:00 each morning to let the trains have a nap, so it's usually fairly easy to search for the first train of the day using our tool – simply type in your departure (from) and arrival (to) stations and choose a time inside of this morning window.

The light rail lines operate on 10-minute headways during off-peak periods and weekends. The B and D rapid transit lines operate every 12 minutes throughout the day. During early morning and late night hours, train frequency on all Metro Rail lines is reduced to every 20 minutes.
