New Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock Is A 10-Second Car - Motor Illustrated (2024)

We know, we’re also tempted to call the new Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock a Demon with 33 fewer horsepower but if we’re honest, it’s the next best thing. The ingredients are similar but with more of everything including bigger tires, the old widebody and critically, more power. This Challenger carries it Super Stock name properly because it “looks” like an ordinary passenger car.

From the looks of it, in Canada, the Super Stock will be on 2021 Challenger models while in the US, it will apply to 2020 models. The US press release referred to the model as a 2020 while up here, it’s a 2021.

At least, that’s how drag racers define the Super Stock class. No one will ever mistake the new Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock for a regular Challenger. It sports the widebody that is a dead giveaway. The lightweight 18×11-inch wheels with sticky 315/40R18 Nitto NT05R drag radials are another. Behind the wheels are a set of lightweight all-aluminum Brembo four-piston brake calipers and 14.2-inch vented rotors.

Although the Super Stock’s supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8 puts out 807 horsepower, or only 10 more than the Redeye, and 707 lb.-ft. of torque but the big difference in the powertrain’s revised calibration. The SRT Performance Pages feature drive modes for the 8-speed automatic transmission, steering, and more, from Auto (Street) mode, all the way to Track. These setting impact the Bilstein Adaptive Damping Suspension (ADS) from cushy for the street to launch-ready. Here, the front dampers are set to firm compression and soft rebound. In the rear, to deal with the rearward shift in weight on launch.

The drag technology included in the Track mode covers all bases. From launch assist, launch control, line lock, race cooldown, and much more.

No matter, the results are incredible where the Challenger SRT Super Stock picks up where the Demon left off. The car will charge to 60 mph from a standstill in 3.25 seconds, hit the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds at 210 km/h (131 mph) and hit the tire-limited top speed of 270 km/h (168 mph)

The order books open this fall and vehicles are scheduled to arrive in dealers in early 2021.
